The May 6 episode of American Idol was a showdown between the final four contestants. The contestants had to choose two songs from The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. This must have been a dream come true for rocker David Cook. David performed a song by Duran, Duran and a song by The Who.

David's first song, "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran, Duran was a good performance. David has a classic alternative rock voice and did a nice job with this song. I was a little bit disappointed in his lack of energy; it seemed like he was a little bit sedate for such a high-energy songs. I also felt that although he sang the majority of the song very well, his ending was a bit lack-luster. The song felt a bit incomplete at the end. The judges were lukewarm about this song. Randy felt that it was an "ok choice, solid performance." Paula liked the song and Simon felt that it was "a little bit copycat." I agree.

David chose The Who's "Baba O'Riley" as his second song of the night. David did a great job with this song. And I have to say that if this was American Alternative Rock Idol, he would most definitely win. He has a great voice but it honestly sounds like a generic alternative rock voice. Honestly this was a great song for him to choose, because it fits right in with the genre that he likes to play and he did a great job with it. All three judges loved this performance, especially Paula who said "I want more David Cook." (In fact, the way she said it was pretty much creepy.)

Although David Cook is a talented singer, I don't feel that he will/should win this competition. He has a strong enough voice to get a record deal but I don't think he has the most talent of those remaining in the competition. Although Jason Castro can basically consider himself gone, Syesha and David Archuleta will probably prove to be too much competition for rocker David Cook.
