Don't get me wrong... Syesha is pretty. Syesha is talented. Syesha has a terrific personality. However, Syesha just is not the next American Idol. The fact that she has been in the bottom two repeatedly since week one says something about her and where she stands in this competition. Dollars to donuts, Syesha will be the next Idol to say goodbye tonight.
Poor, poor Syesha. I don't know if she is making her own bad choices, or listening to the bad advice of others. Let's take a look at last night's performance, shall we? Syesha opened up with Proud Mary, a song written by John Fogerty and made famous by the legendary Tina Turner. Not only did Syesha attempt to sing like Tina, she attempted to do Tina's famous performance - silver dress and all. It just didn't work, especially since the audience for American Idol probably doesn't understand the reference that Syesha was trying to make. Simon was spot-on:
Syesha, sweetheart... Let me fill you in on a couple of things: 1) There is only one Tina Turner. No one, and I mean no one, can emulate her 100%. When you are in a competition such as American Idol, it is all or nothing. This performance was nothing. You don't have Tina's voice. You don't have Tina's legs. You don't have Tina's charisma. 2) American Idol is about raw talent being cultivated into something amazing. It isn't about who can do the best karaoke. Week after week, you have performed a glorified karaoke act. I suppose the viewing audience should just be thankful that you didn't come out in a Tina Turner wig. 3) American Idol is about singing, not dancing. And, honey, you can't be an amazing singer and dancer at the same time. Choose whether you want to sing or dance. If you would prefer to dance, go audition for So You Think You Can Dance. The new season starts soon.
