Throughout the centuries we have encountered numerous predators that we would call serial killers. People that I would call monsters who have taken more than one life with a twisted routine and no regard for the living. I have compiled a list of what I feel were and are considered the most brutal serial killers and mutilators of all time.

1. Gilles De Rais 1404 - 1440

In the 1400 he was accused of raping, torturing and murdering young children mostly males. His count of killing ranged into the hundreds. Gilles was a soldier in the French Army. He was hung on October 26, 1440 after he confessed to these crimes under threats of torture.

2. Countess Elizabeth Báthory 1560 - 1614

She was said to be a beautiful woman with pale skin and long black hair. This Hungarian woman was known as the "Blood Countess" and "Bloody Lady of Csejte" It was said she was responsible for killing and torturing over 600 women and children, though she was only convicted of 80. She was imprisoned in a room in her own house until her death 4 years later. It was rumored that she bathed in the blood of her virgin victims to retain her youth and therefore inspired the creation of Countess Dracula or Blood Countess.

3. Albert Fish 1870 - 1936

Albert Fish confessed to molesting over 300 children during his crime spree. He was also responsible for torturing and killing several others. A monster underneath the exterior of a gentle looking man he used unthinkable torture methods including a paddle covered with sharp nails. His tortuous way got more bizarre as time went on. He was even known to eat some of his victims after he tortured and raped them. Fish married and had six children. After his wife ran off with another man he would invite his children to participate in his sadomasochistic ways. His victims included mostly African American children.
The trial lasted 10 days and even though a plea of innocent by reason of insanity was given the jury found him sane and guilty. Fish was electrocuted in Sing Sing on January 16, 1936.

4. Ed Gein 1906 - 1984
