Opening up my May 7, 2008 Houston Chronicle, I learned that the power behind Jason Castro might just be much more awesome than the adoration of his teeny-bopper fan base. Can you say "Aggie Power!" If you don't know what that is, perhaps the following excerpt will explain it:

"On American Idol, he's the guy with the dreadlocks. But at Texas A&M University, he's Jason Castro, Class of 2009. Howdy.

And that means tens of thousands of Aggies were poised Tuesday night to vote Castro through to next week's Idol episode and, in the process, clear the way for an Idol-sponsored concert at Aggieland on Thursday."

Ryan Seacrest opened this week's elimination show with the ridiculous statement that the prior evening had been one of the most dramatic ever. What baloney! He then pronounced that there had been 51,000,000 votes counted only that seemed a little ominous in light of the Houston Chronicle article.

The four finalists performed Steely Dan's "Reelin' in the Years," which was pretty appropriate if you were in a paraphrasing mood. You could substitute talent for knowledge in the line : "the things that pass for knowledge I can't understand"

A recap of the performances highlighted Syesha's tearful meltdown of Paula's congratulations, as well as Jason Castro's flubbed delivery of "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man." David Archuleta was immediately sent to safety, for his performances of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" and Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender." I am not a big fan of slow songs or David Archuleta but I did read a review claiming if I had been there in person, I would have loved it.

We were then shown a trip to Las Vegas that the four finalists were sent on to see a Beatles show, where the idols were mobbed by fans after a flight on a luxury 747.

David Cook was next up. He said he woke up with an uneasy feeling. Maybe he read the Houston Chronicle too. It didn't matter. He was safe. It would have been another Chris Daughtry moment for sure if the Aggies had succeeded in eliminating David Cook with their foul plot.

The happy-go-lucky Castro still made the final four
