In the corporate world, a degree of professionalism is needed. You must have the right wardrobe, shoes, and hairstyle. You could spend hours at the beauty salon and then most of your mornings trying to keep your style just right. But between our families and other responsibilities, who has the time?
Well, my African-American sisters, look no further, because of the versatility of our hair and many advances made, we have plenty of options with little to no fuss included. The first option is braids. Intertwined beauty cascading down your back
or pulled up in a bun is a great look for the businesswoman. Braids also easily transition from business to casual. There are many types of braids to choose from. The most popular now is micro and mini-micro braids. According to stylist Sereta Johnson, to get this look you buy 2-3 packs of human hair weave to be braided with natural hair. Micros are made with 15-20 strands of hair and require six to eight hours to braid.
The cost is around $250.00. Micro-minis are even smaller with 5-10 strands of hair braided with hair weave requiring 12-16 hours. The style costs about $350.00. Some beauty salons shorten the time by having two or more stylists working on your hair at one time. These braids are great for worry free style lasting about 3 months; however, the style is expensive and it obviously takes a large degree of patience on the part of the customer.
Next easy style you can get are cornrows. This is your hair pulled back in individual french braids. You can use your natural hair or buy a pack of kankelon hair weave, synthetic hair weave added to your regular hair to add thickness and length. The time required for this style is relatively short, 2 hours or less and stylists charge as little as $50.00. The downside to cornrows is they don’t keep for very long. You may have to return for a touch up every 4 weeks. There are different shapes and directions. For example, the zigzag braids are cornrows braided in a z shape. This style of braids add a more natural feel to your hair and beads can be added on the ends of the hair for a more colorful and dramatic look.
