I have smoked pot.

In fact, in the past, I have smoked probably enough pot to keep one grower in business for a year. That is how much pot I used to smoke. Back then, I didn't smoke it for other reasons than to be stoned. Stoned is fun. When you are stoned everything is funny. And at the end of it all, after you have
laughed at a fly on the wall, you eat a bunch of food, sit and vegetate in front of the television. Then you fall asleep.

However there are people in the world who want you to believe that if you smoke a little bit of reefer, you are going to end up doing something really stupid, like trying to shove your entire closed fist into your mouth just to see if you can.

I'm sorry, but those people who produced that commercial and the commercials like it are wrong. Also wrong is the assumption that people are going to try to to more lethal substances if they try pot once. There are legions of people right now, people who have not ever even done more than watch one of those very biased, one-sided commercials, believing that pot is the most evil substance on the planet.

These are the same people, or at least a lot of them, who vilify people like me so that they and people like them can continue to pop pills and wash said pills down with a shot of vodka. Their reasoning is that the pills are legal. Their assumption is that since the pills are legal, then they are also safe. Yeah, safe like too many shots of vodka, right?

I have friends who have family who are like those people who would vilify me because of the things that I choose to do in order that my menstral cramps are easier to deal with, my carpal-tunnel syndrome not so painful, and a myriad of other aches and pains are not so painful that I cannot deal with them. I get to eat and laugh and then woo-hoo! I even get to go to sleep, and I don't have to pop any pills to do it.

  • Medical Marijuana is NOT evil
  • Marijuana is the best medicine
  • More reasons that it is illegal than you think

Not everyone is like this lady. Some people do bad things while under the influence, and not everyone has the said responsibility that she has.

Excellent article! "the last thing this country needs is a bunch of naked people high on weed dancing around and playing the bongos - or worse, speaking." I think that comment was pretty ignorant. I've never in my life seen or heard of stoners running around naked playing on bongos. That's very judgemental. You'd be surprised if you take a look around and see who really uses pot. I've seen ceo's, counselors, and even doctors smoke pot - on the outside you would have never guessed.

OH MY GOD!! You're kidding, right? Naked? I'm sorry but I have never been stoned and naked at the same time. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find me stoned at anytime at all these days. What I am reading is a lot of stereotype without a lot of fact. I'm not saying that anyone should try it and then say something without knowing first. I am saying that if you knew who I was outside of what I wrote about this very useful plant, peoples' assumption of me based on my writing versus what they would find out would blow their minds. I have found that there are a lot of people who will judge first without knowing more than what they have seen on television. That people would use weed as a medicine is not half as dangerous as believing that people who use or who have used it in the past are all somehow foolsih based on one person's own personal preferences. You can judge a book by its cover all you want, but the proof is in the reading, wouldn't you agree?

I think it's admirable to stand up for what you believe in even if it is a stinky weed. But honestly, the last thing this country needs is a bunch of naked people high on weed dancing around and playing the bongos - or worse, speaking.

Ooops, sorry, I guess my fiance was the post below my previous one. Sorry Paul Bright, I'm sure you're a great guy, but I'm taken.

I don't see anything childish about this article as one of the comments above said. On the conrary, I think you do a great job pointing out how "childish" these laws are. This country is FULL of people who are not adults, though they are over the age of 21. This is a result of our government not giving us the right to govern our own lives. Don't get me wrong. I believe in legalizing pot, but it should be governed much the same as alcohol. No driving while under the influence, etc. My fiance was the first post on the article. Although she is not a fan, she is always good enough to show me people with similar views to mine. As I'm rambling now, I'll wrap this up. I think you make excellent points on all accounts, and boy am I tired of prison overcrowding(which legalizing pot would help a lot). Great read!
