Harvey Weinstein Sucker Punches Clinton Campaign
Harvey Weinstein started off with good intentions. He proposed an idea for a re-vote in both Michigan and Florida. The proposal consisted of Weinstein and other fundraisers getting together to raise the money for a re-vote in both states. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wasn't going for it.
That's when things got ugly. Weinstein threatened Pelosi. Allegations have been made that he said that if she did not support his proposal, he would slow down the cash flow going to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Like most of the people involved in Clinton's campaign, he took things a step too far.
The word "re-vote" has resonated through the Clinton campaign since she got behind in the polls and could not use the votes in Florida and Michigan to help her. However, those votes were not taken away after the fact. Both states, and the candidates, were aware that Florida and Michigan had lost their right to seat their delegates. They chose to move their primaries up to be more competitive, and forfeited their right to seat their delegates. It only became an issue when the race got close.
As nice as it would be to be able to count every vote in the campaign, rules are rules. Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean cannot back down from the stated rules in the contest. As unfortunate as it might be for Hilary Clinton, Democratic leaders cannot reverse previous decisions based on the state of the election. What kind of a precedent would that set?
Also, to be completely honest, a re-vote in Florida and Michigan would be a waste of money. Even if those two states were allowed to cast their ballots once again, Clinton would still be down too far in delegates to catch up. It is mathematically impossible for her to win. By refusing to recognize that, she is tearing apart the Democratic Party even more.
