When I found out I was pregnant my first thought was, "Yes! Finally!" My second thought was: "Now I get to buy all those cute maternity clothes!"

Luckily, I was able to retrain myself from running out and buying maternity clothes right at that moment but did at around 12 weeks. I started to realize that buying a whole new wardrobe was going to be much pricier than I had anticipated! This coming at a time in my life where I needed to be saving money to buy all the baby supplies I would need to purchase in a few months. After sticker shock sunk in a little bit and I realized how much I truly did need to buy, I started to find ways to save myself some cash.

eBay

Good ol' eBay was first on my hit list. I was amazed at how many women were selling their gently used maternity clothes. The prices are amazing as well. You can buy huge lots of maternity clothes (and I am talking 7-10 outfits) for around $100 or less! You are saving yourself an incredible amount of money by doing this. This is also a great way to make money after you have the baby if you decide not to have more children.

The only thing I would not recommend buying used is a maternity bathing suit. I am sure the suits have been washed but there is something about wearing a used bathing suit that gives me the heebie-jeebies! This is something that you can find moderately priced at a maternity clothing store. You can also buy a bathing suit from Old Navy's website and return it to the store if it doesn't fit.

Friends and Family

Friends and family are a great resource for getting free maternity clothes. My sister in-law gave me a huge garbage bag full of maternity clothes when she found out I was pregnant. I only ended up keeping about half of the bag (the other half either didn't fit or were just not my style) but it was all completely free! If you can find a friend that is your size and is willing to part with her old maternity clothes, you're golden!

Kelly . . . . If you go to Freecycle.org and post a message that you need maturnity clothes, you'll be amazed at how many people will contact you from your community. Good Luck! Debby (Southwest Florida - Naples)

Great suggestions! Most of my maternity clothes came from helpful family/friends, Ebay, thrift shops, and Old Navy. I was eager to wear all the cute maternity clothes but not spend the hefty prices associated with some of the labels.

thanks for the tips !....................with my first pregnancy, I was eager to buy maternity clothes, in fact, I bought those even before I was showing............ with the second pregnancy, I thought buying maternity clothes was a necessity and waited until I really had to buy those..........and then those stayed with me as my regular clothes !.................
