What Skin Care Products Are Appropriate for African-American Skin?
Whether you have oily skin, dry skin , old skin, hyper sensitive skin or wrinkled skin no matter what race you are its all pretty much the same. The product's on the market that really do work according to their claims can work for all women of all races. I am not eliminating that there are some skin difference when you look into different ethnic groups, but they are not major enough that we have to start developing skin products for different ethnic groups. Its all really a huge marketing scheme.
We must remember that skin is an organ and this organ needs certain nutrients to help be strong and healthy. This is for people across the board. Even though we all have different traits based upon our different ethnic group does not mean we now need different skin care products. Traits don't determine what kind of skin care we need.
The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology back in 2002 did a study on various ethnic groups including African American's and they found that the differences in skin, hair structure, function and physiology had nothing to do with needing specialized skin care products. The only difference that was found is that when an African American person has some kind of rash or irritation of the skin they need to use gentler products to treat their skin more so than any other ethnic group. However, that still does not mean that new special lines need to be created, all that means is that whatever line they choose needs to have a product that is for sensitive skin.
When African Americans have irritated skin for extended amounts of time, their skin defenses are down in a sense. The skin becomes so sensitive that it cannot protect itself form the environment. When this happens it dries up the skin and cause the skin to look ashy and flaky.
