(There is a lot to see and do in Hong Kong, but the main activity is shopping.) A visit to former British crown colony of Hong Kong would make no sense if one does not include shopping along with a tour of the province, even on a limited scale. The province is fully prepared on a large scale to assist the tourist whether for shopping in mega-malls or bargain hunting in the open markets. Every hour of the day and night the visitor is offered items in all shapes, prices, sizes and colors. Off course there is a difference in price and the authentic quality of the merchandise between the expensive shopping malls and the simple cheap market places. Yet there is bargain to be had at all shopping sites, from the boutiques reducing the price from custom duties to the friendly bargaining at the market places.
Hong Kong today is The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Hong Kong is on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta on the southeastern coast of the People's Republic of China, facing the South China Sea in the south, and bordering Guandong Province, China in the north. Hong Kong was a British colony from 1842, until its sovereignty was transferred to China in 1997. At a heritage tour offered by one of the tourist companies you can learn of its history, as well as the history of the colony from the time of the Chinese dynasties to the present day.
The local authorities of Hong Kong have conducted a campaign to broaden the visitor's perspective of the province. (1) The informative campaign suggests that there is more to see and do in Hong Kong, but touring is secondary. Shopping seems to be a major activity to a visit to the province that fascinates the tourist. Bargains and discounts are the words.
