1. Prevent Food Poisoning By Paying Attention
The best time to get food when you are at a buffet style restaurant is when it is first being emptied out of the tray. The reason is because there are many types of foods which need to remain a certain temperature, whether it is hot or cold. Once they have been sitting for quite a while, they tend to become contaminated. To easily avoid this, just pay attention to when food is being served. If you are unable to watch, try to opt for trays in the buffet which seem to be full - there is a good chance that they were recently re-filled.
2. Be Weary of Fruits and Vegetables at Buffets
Although the fruits and vegetables being served at the salad bar may look scrumptious and are the basis of a healthy diet, it is important to be very weary when you decide to eat. Try to choose these foods wisely. Not only will you want to pay attention to how they look, but also keep in mind that certain fruits and vegetables do not remain fresh as long as others. Some good examples include certain types of melon, citrus fruits, tomatoes and anything else that contains high acid levels. Also try to avoid salads that contain cheeses or eggs, which tend to spoil quick if they are left uneaten at the wrong temperature.
3. Try to Avoid Sea Food and Lunch Meat
Even if you really love sea food and lunch meat, it is really a good idea to try to avoid them while you are eating at a buffet. The reason is because, over long periods of time, both of these types of foods need to be kept cold or they will spoil. Unless you see that the tray has recently been filled with new sea food or lunch meat, it is a good idea to just avoid them altogether when you are eating at a buffet.
