Nestled into the bluffs that line the upper Mississippi River region LaCrosse, Wisconsin might not look like much on a map but the locals know that LaCrosse has a lot to offer. If you are looking for a nice little day trip or a convenient weekend getaway that won't cost a lot of money, why not consider LaCrosse?

Starting in Mid-May and running into October the LaCrosse area is alive every weekend with community festivals. It seems every town has at least one; and these fun little fests can be a good way to get out and explore the best a community has to offer. Most of these community festivals have several common features; a parade, carnival rides, food, music and craft shows or exhibits. The town shops are open and offer a wide variety of special fest prices. This can be a great time to try local foods (when was the last time you had Lefse?) and see just how friendly small town folk really are. Ride some rides, eat some brats and watch a tractor pull or two. Some of my favorites are Corn Fest, Sunfish Days, Riverfest and Octoberfest (LaCrosse's version of the German favorite). And what would dairy country be without a few Dairy days and Cheese fests? Contact the local chamber of commerce to find out what special flavor each town adds to their events.
