The Greatest Comic Book Covers of All Time (No. 21) Martha Washington Goes to War #1

This cover stands out immediately in so many social ways-and has a bold and defining presence in comic art. This first issue of a female war warrior fighting for peace and reconciliation against the Government was a superb idea. There are no fancy added designs or other medium that the artists choose to create this classic cover art, just the basic elements needed for a great timeless cover. One of the most impressive things about this cover is-all of the hardware she's toting, a sub-blaster gun, a Rambo knife, a rocket launcher and a special made mk-47. Without a doubt she's all strapped and ready to do some serious damage.

There are not many African American women comic heroes displayed on the front pages of comic covers. This is one of the reasons this stands out as an important addition to the world of comic covers. Dark Horse Comics has always been on the cutting edge when it comes to ushering in new heroines and heroes. The white back-ground was an excellent way to bring out the characters realness and imagery; the peace sign band on her arm is subtle-yet powerful for the viewer.

There is also something subliminal in the context of the cover, if you take a closer observation of the cover you will see it as a bold and substantial statement.

The headline is one of those comic headlines that you can ignore if you do not pay close attention to its underlying message.

It suggests the most unique twist and two very poignant statements; Washington and War, so this does make out to be a truly great cover-one for the ages.
