The 7th American Idol competition still has a few weeks to go, but rocker David Cook appears to be the frontrunner. While high school crooner David Archuletta is close on his heels, David Cook has a wide ranging appeal that will most likely override his rival's teenybopper fan base.
So what is it about David Cook that fans seem to love?

1. He can make any song a rock song. It's true, David Cook can make any song--- even a Neil Diamond song-- sound kinda.... rockin'. He's the King of Changing up Arrangements. This is the man who changed up the Beatle's "Eleanor Rigby", the genius who turned Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" into a rock song. Actually that's not completely true, which leads me to point #2.

2. He's humble. Early on, fans loved the twists that Cook put on the songs he performed. The musical arrangement for the song "Billie Jean" was completely changed up, making Jackson's version practically unrecognizable. Trouble was, Cook got himself into a little hot water when Chris Cornell's (of Soundgarden fame) fans raised heck-- Cornell had actually recorded that version of the song in 2007 on his solo album, "Carry On". Still Cornell was flattered by the copycat version and Cook apologized on air for not giving credit where credit was due.

3. He has issues. Cook has some personal problems, which makes him all the more "real". First a hospitalization for heart palpitations led to speculation that he was sick. But in fact, his brother has been battling cancer. Cook puts on a brave front every week without talking about his personal problems.

4. He's cool- but not too cool. He dresses like a rocker and move s like one too. He has a cool aloofness that only a rock star can get away with. But he still does those High School Musical-ish Ford commercials every week along with the rest of the crew!

Cook is sure to end up in the final 2, but if he doesn't win the American Idol competition, coming in second or even third isn't bad either. Several runner's up have fared better career wise than the first place winner. So even if he doesn't make it to the end, I'd predict David Cook is set for a spectacular career!
