Smoking has been a part of daily routines of most of the people who live in a very cold place. One of the reasons is that smoking helps the body cope with cold weather. That's why people in Alaska often prefer to smoke rather than drink coffee. But for some, smoking is just a hobby. Some smoke because they just want to smoke. And some smoke because they need it - these are the people who are nicotine dependent. The greatest challenge for these people is how to quit smoking. How to surpass the feeling, how to go against your will, how to stop yourself and say "No".

Here are some simple steps how and why you should stop smoking.

First, diversion. Divert your mind into something. Switch the focus of your mind. Think of something else to compensate your want for a cigarette. Have candy or ice cream instead. Re-channel yourself. Think that there is no cigarette available, that you have to have something for yourself. So instead of craving a cigarette, crave for something beneficial for you. Just think the effects of smoking to your body.

Second, money. Think of the expenses you spent over the years of smoking. Let's say you were spending $5 a day just for smoking, and you have been smoking for at least ten years now. So 5 times 356 times 10, you must have spent $18,250 for ten years already. You must have bought a car with that money. Literally, you converted that large amount of money into a smoke. That's a waste!

Third, time. Think of the time wasted when you were smoking. A single stick of cigarette takes at least three minutes to consume. And you must be consuming at least twenty sticks a day. So three minutes multiplied by twenty is 60 minutes or one hour. Instead of having twenty fours a day, you just have twenty three because you wasted your one hour puffing a cigarette. Your family must have been so happy if you were with them for one hour. One of the main reasons why women left their husbands or boyfriends is because they don't spend much time with them. They are not around whenever they need them.
