My First Plane Trip, Years Ago to Florida
Part One

I remember my first trip on a plane, many years ago when my eldest child was around 4 years of age, my second child still in diapers and pushing around one of those collapsible strollers. It was a two week trip to Florida, Disneyland to be exact. We couldn't afford the high prices of the hotels that were right there in Orlando, and so we opted to stay in Kississimee, a place that that was further north on the I-90 highway. My ma was alive then, what a trooper she was, young in heart in spite of her many trials and tribulations along life's highway. The bags were all packed, loaded with goodies and I am sure that we looked and played the parts of tourists to the script. Well, ma had travelled before but not me so I was the faint at heart, to say the least. As we boarded the plane with the two kids in tow, one standing quietly beside me, impatient to go off on our big journey, the other one hanging from my hip, I started having second thoughts about it all. Well, having an absolute fear of heights didn't help matters much and I was a nervous wreck. As I went through the walkway to the plane all I kept thinking was I want to turn back and go back home where my feet could stay safely on the ground. We quietly took our seats on the plane and got the kids situated as best as we could. My eldest was stationed at the window, ma in the middle seat and I with my youngest one on my lap at the end. Ma pulled out her book and started to read, quite comfortable I might add. Shortly afterward, can't remember how long it was, the pilot or captain came over the intercom to tell us to stay in our seats, fasten our seatbelts that we would be in the air very soon. I broke out in a sweat and my heart started racing, I was so nervous... it didn't help matters any that we hit some real rough turbulence along the way. My eldest sitting quietly at the window seat staring out at the wings and the clouds, Ma reading her book, my youngest busy making a mess with some infant cookies and me sitting there fists and teeth clenched with tears rolling down my cheeks.
