Eckhart Tolle and the Laws of Attraction

How These Two Messages Relate

After hearing about the buzz of Eckhart Tolle's book "A New Earth," (ANE) and knowing a little bit about his book "The Power of Now," I decided to purchase it to see what the hype was all about. Reading Tolle's "A New Earth" is definitely worth the money. It's the type of book that you
need to read slowly to fully understand his message - and the message is pretty profound.

Perhaps already known to some people, Tolle emphasizes the difference between the ego and our Inner Being ("awareness"). My interpretation of the book is that: the ego is that part of you that makes itself known when we lose control in our moments of anger, frustration, fear; whereas the other part of ourselves, our awareness, is that voice in the back of our heads that knows we're being out of control. The ego always wants to show off to our friends, to subtly prove we are better, to always want more and more.

So that got me thinking... Regarding the Laws of Attraction (LOA), as one expert claims, "We will always want more and more and never get it done." So isn't LOA then in agreement with this bad "ego" of ours? LOA basically states to get what you want: State your desire, visualize yourself having it NOW, let go and release it knowing it, and taking any inspired action.

What does this mean about "inspired" action? This is where Tolle's teachings come into place. Tolle teaches us to be more present, to not always be thinking about the past or to not be worried about the future. How do we focus on the now? Tolle suggests being more aware of your breathing or looking at the beauty of nature - a flower, a tree, etc. When you are with your family, really just be with them - playing with them, listening to them; not be in a mindset of comments like "Don't touch that!" or "Did you do your homework?"

Back to blending Tolle and LOA teachings: You can still follow the LOA statements of stating your desire, etc., but follow it up with the emphasis on just being present and by not thinking about your desire coming during the rest of the day. Continue with your life just by being present.

One comment Tolle made (summarized in my words) is:
