Having a toothache can be a sudden, relentless bout of serious pain. Having a toothache when you're nowhere near a dentist, you cannot get an appointment for days or you can't afford to go right away can be agony.

I have had my share of tooth pain. I have been in the situation more than once when I could not get to a dentist. There are topical treatments like Ambisol and Oral Gel. These work for like two minutes, not even long enough for the ibuprofen to kick in. So I want to share what has given me immediate relief in the past.

You have to get to the dentist to keep yourself safe and healthy, so do not replace going to the dentist with these.

I have read that tea bags draw out infections. I have used this to relieve the pressure of an infected tooth. If you put a teabag, just a dry one, between your cheek and the infested tooth area and just leave it there for a while, it will bring relief. It may even cause the infection to drain and buy you a little time before the pain is completely unbearable and you have to get to the dentist.

Another thing you can do is treat the area with a dab of peroxide and be sure to gargle with an antibacterial mouthwash to help fight the infection.

This is my very favorite. It will bring you instant relief and it will last long enough for you to get back to sleep or let the ibuprofen kick in.
Fill a bowl with very very cold water and ice cubes. Place the hand opposite to the side of your face that is hurting in the bowl. (your tooth on the right of your face hurts, use your left hand) As your hand is in the bowl and after your pull it out, massage vigorously the area between your finger and thumb. I promise this really really works.

This is an acupuncture thing. The spot you massage is the pressure point for the spot in your mouth.

Now you can get back to sleep and don't forget the dentist appointment!
