The Doctor and His Daughter

A Review of Doctor Who's Newest Episode: The Doctor's Daughter

The latest episode of Doctor Who, the hit British sci-fi show that can be seen in the United States on both BBC America (still showing Season 3) and the Sci-Fi Channel (running 3 weeks behind first run episodes on BBC One) was another stellar episode. The Doctor, along with companion
Donna Noble and Martha Jones are hijacked by the TARDIS. They are standing in the TARDIS at the end of the last episode, The Poison Sky, and Martha is turning down an offer to once again adventure with The Doctor, when the TARDIS begins to shift and twist and turn and the three friends are traveling through time and space. The Doctor's hand, a relic from the 2005 Christmas Invasion episode and Torchwood's Captain Jack's favorite headquarters good luck charm, begins to bubble and the three find themselves on the planet Messaline.

There they find a war being fought. Humans against The Hath, a humanoid race with green, bubbling liquid containers that assist in the breathing, since they appear to have fish-like heads, complete with gills. The humans that encounter the trio quickly grab The Doctor and force his arm into a machine that quickly takes a tissue sample and create a new life form. This life form, which is grown to a full-sized young woman within seconds, is The Doctor's daughter. Bred and programmed by the accelerated genetic generation machine, she is a soldier. Bred for combat and not hesitant to engage The Hath, blowing up a tunnel that leaves Martha Jones trapped with The Hath.
