A few days ago, I prepared a video based on Telementoring. I prepared it from my power point slide presentation. Though with a short scope to make a point I showed the downside of telementoring, it does hold a lot of promise in today's world where knowledge is being shared within the virtual community.

I am currently working hard (I think !) to earn a doctorate degree in Higher Education. So, I come across a lot of information that I think all can benefit from. I took a few courses focusing on "Technology for Educators", and these articles that I am writing are based on what I have learned so far. I owe it to my professor. She is from Greece and extremely knowledgeable. Also, she made my experience in class so enjoyable that I was able to learn a lot of new things within the shortest possible time. As she explained, we refuse to learn new technologies not only because of lack of confidence. It is because :

a) fear of the unknown, and

b) we feel threatened by technology : teachers feel that if we depend more on technology, they will eventually get replaced. That is not true. Education can be technology-aided and not technology-dependent. Smart people know how to utilize technology to their favor to be more efficient and productive. So, not knowing how to do that will eventually increase job insecurity.

"Telementoring", as the name suggests, means mentoring with the use of telecommunications. This is relatively a new concept in the field of education though we have been using emails for quite sometime now. A few of you showed interest to learn more about this educational tool. This should be a valuable resource for you if you are involved in the field of education and want to benefit from telementoring. Parents, especially who are homeschooling their children, can also find it helpful since it will let you know what options are available out there.

So, here is the L-O-N-G list :

Very good article. I remember when I had to train nurses on the use of computers in our workplace. It is true that there has been an uneasiness in our field of being replaced by some type of robot. Nurses are known to object to change esp. regarding computers and their use in learning.

Fear of the unknown is something that really is hard for people. At work, I see it all of the time. We have some sort of new technology, some sort of new something coming out and people just flip totally out of fear.
