Good morning Lord,

I sit here at the keyboard,

Not knowing what to say,

Conflicting emotions linger

Concerning my mom of long ago.

I don't feel like I knew her, Lord;

Because she never shared much

Of her life before I was born.

Her life as a child-a mystery,

Nary was a story ever told,

Of her memories of long ago.

I wish I could have known her, Lord,

Known the girl who became my mom;

Then I might have understood,

Why she often made me feel

Like I was her clone, and all alone.

Lord, she tried so hard to make me,

Into what she wanted me to be,

Living through me vicariously.

I used to hate it, Lord,

But now I don't mind at all.

The strongest woman I ever knew,

Is now in Glory-Land with you.

But still I feel her within me, Lord

Peering through my eyes;

I guess a piece of her still lives in me.

Give her a hug please, Lord,

And tell her it is okay to let me go,

You are here with me now,

To lead guide and direct me now.

This is my mom and dad on their 50th wedding anniversary.

I love this Sally...I understand that part about so much of not knowing of various things about my mother's past...who knows maybe she had a lot of demons in her that she couldn't talk about....she would only talk of more "pleasant" things, but like you it was like I never really knew the REAL her either

It's nice to see the honest emotions in this piece. Many of us can relate to having less than perfect moms . . . I like to call my mom, the good enough mom. A beautiful tribute to a mom who was "good enough". Blessings!!

Charlene, thank you for sharing your thoughts about your mom. I think a lot of us feel the same about our moms. My mother possessed me---I was her baby. I think you turned out to be a wonderful woman from the little I know of you. That's a great picture!!!

Nice poem !........................all have faults and we get only one set of parents............what matters is that their love is unconditional. Therefore, they have the right to be harsh too and should be above judgment...............who knows, our kids will someday complain about us also !................happy Mother's Day to you !..................................

Lovely sentiments, Charlene. Hanging on to old hurts never does us any good, and we can never totally understand the thoughts and actions of others, even those we love. Happy Mother's Day.
