Less than two months in a position as a financial advisor, I have found myself dwelling in the pit of the undesirables where salesmen and lawyers shape the mind of public opinion. For myself, I entered this career with the hope at the end of the tunnel of finding a position that can truly prosper society. My passion was to help people. I wanted to secure their financial futures. I fought the uphill battle in getting licensed, learning the rules of the road, and enduring an intense training program uncommon for the industry. I found the right company. I found good people to work with and to mentor me. And within two weeks, I found that my glass dream of believing that I could be an open resource to the willing was shattered by the prospect of an inevitable truth - the people who need me, don't initially want me. Typically, the individuals who suddenly realize that pursuing an advisor to their finances is indeed beneficial will have already failed to realize that they needed to have begun many years prior. Usually, it's in light of a pressing issue that they currently face that the financial magician is called in for a "Hail, Mary." The logic is simple. For example, if the wish is to efficiently finance a new car for tomorrow, effective planning needed to start 10 years ago with a wealth accumulation program that would've taken that into consideration. Likewise, worrying about retirement as employment income ceases began its planning stage in the 40 years that preceded this upcoming point in time. In the end, there exists an offbeat relationship in which an advisor must pursue a reality that differs from an audience with an inherent misconception.
