I am furious!, I need to vent.
I don't know what to do and don't think there is anything I can do - any suggestions? Please!
I feel put down, shamed, degraded, labelled, helpless, bad, powerless, embarrassed, tired, shocked, depressed, let down, angry, violated, patronized, misunderstood, disrespected, disregarded, and mistreated, to say the least.
As a recovering drug addict, I've gotten quite use to judgement and pre-disposed notions. But when it's effecting me still today in a way that also effects others with me, who don't deserve it, and comes at me by surprise, I tend to freeze. Old behavior kicks right in and I want to hide or check-out (stop the feelings).
For those who don't know, I was going to Malibu (Sat) yesterday with my boyfriend. I arrived 2 hours early at 9 am, checked in, checked baggage and proceeded to the United States Customs Dudes.
I was about to be denied entry to the United States but wouldn't find this out for another 3 hours.
I have been to the US well over a hundred times for both business and personal reasons, as well as medical. Not to mention my father and brother have lived in Texas for the past 20 years.
But something or a lot of things have changed with Homeland security. But I am not sure how I pose a threat? I have tried to put myself in their (customs) position and just do not understand.
I was denied entry because their computer showed them I had attended drug treatment on three separate occasions in Minnesota, Los Angeles and Texas. Therefore I was a drug addict, which I didn't deny. That information has been there from 1984 to 1997.
Apparently US customs has the right to refuse a non-US citizen entry if they are a "drug addict' (clean or not)?
My boyfriend was told he was welcome to board the flight, but, and I quote him, "You want me to board on a trip planned with my girlfriend, without my girlfriend, and leave her alone in customs not knowing why, or what, the problem is? Thank you, but, if I may, I would like to wait with her."
