John Lennon Tithed Ten Percent of His Income: What Will You Do to Save the World?

Imagine how much money 10% of Lennon's income must have been. Yep, he said in an interview with Playboy that he tithed 10% of his income. He said he was unsure that funds raised in benefits actually were used to help those in need so he said he preferred to directly tithe his income to causes. John Lennon gave away ten percent of his income. This is an awesome fact and I intend to ponder it and hopefully someday follow his example.

I worked briefly for the United Way once (I had to make a sudden exit after a higher up made his pervy ways very clear at a business lunch...) Anyway the wonderful woman who next hired me and saved me from the horrors of that job asked me about the United Way when she saw it on my resume because she said she tithed part of her income to them. I was impressed with that. She was my new boss and the same age as me, but a product of city life and an Ivy league grad and much more worldly than I was at that time.

I hate to admit I have never yet officially tithed income directly from my paycheck, but I have tried to donate to charities on occasion and to do many good deeds such as sending packages to soldiers, giving blood, and contributing to food drives and so on. Also, the people at the Salvation Army store always give me a huge discount when I shop there. I guess that's because after I lost my Mother I hauled so much of her stuff up to the Salvation Army store in her hometown. I enjoyed the thought that her stuff I couldn't use was helping people in the town she loved so much.
