Increased awareness of the dangers of tattoos needs to be brought to the attention of the public, especially parents of teenagers and young adults.

The most dangerous risks of tattooing are HIV, Hepatitis C, B, and Tetanus.
Another danger lurking in the wings is infection due to the use of unsterile needles and other equipment such as, the tattoo gun. An allergic reaction to the ink could also occur, the reaction could be mild or serious and life threatening.

In addition after the application of the tattoo, nodules or keloids could develop along with excessive scarring. Swelling or burning at the tattoo site has occurred to some patients during a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedure.

Today tattoos are popular. They are worn by movie stars and famous players in sports. They are now considered trendy and are more acceptable in society. However the decision to have a tattoo needs much thought, research and preparation before taking the final step.

Bear in mind that once a tattoo is placed, it is permanent. Tattoos are costly, painful and entail surgical risks to be removed. If you decide to have one, do some research on the subject. Talk with others who have had a tattoo to get their feedback about their experience.

Think about the placement of your tattoo, not only for today but in many years to come. Will you still want to have it there in the next ten years? Make sure you are having it performed under proper health and safety conditions, with a professional tattoo artist. Make a commitment that you will enjoy having it for a long, long time.

Tattoos are an artistic form of self expression. When applied under the proper safety standards in a tasteful and attractive style they can look pleasing to the eye. Each individual has the right to decide whether they want a tattoo and where the placement of that tattoo ought to be.

The main issue is to be aware of the dangers and risks prior to having one so that these dangers can be avoided. Once you have educated yourself about all the dangers and the risk and have decided to have one, go for it and wear it with pride.

Yiks! Coming from someone in the medical field, this should be taken lightly. Thanks for the heads up and excellent report.

Good information. I've never had a tattoo, and never will, but don't mind them on others when tastefully done.
