Asking a significant other for their hand in marriage is not only a key moment in a relationship, but also has the potential to provide an everlasting memory for both as one of the best moments in the lives of both members of the couple. These days, it may not be typical for a man to propose to a woman, but for the sake of clarity in this article, we'll assume that is the case. With that said, here are a few tips to make the occasion momentous and magical.

Location:

Location can be everything in a good proposal. Choose somewhere special to both parties. Consider where you first met your future fiance, the location of your first date, a favorite restaurant, vacation spot, etc. it's important to give thought to the location.

Music:

Arrange for romantic music, whether performed by live musicians or pre-recorded music on a sound system. Music can add a perfect touch to the most romantic proposal! Consider stringed instruments, like violin, or perhaps "your song," or any romantic song known to both of you.

Flowers:

Flowers are a great touch, and can distract her while you prepare to propose. They'll direct her attention while you reach for the ring, and in many cases, receiving flowers can be such a surprise and delight that she won't be expecting a further gift of proposal!

Theme:

For a theme, it's important to consider the interests and habits of your future wife. If she's a fan of puzzles, consider having a crossword puzzle created with a proposal message included, or perhaps some sort of treasure hunt can be arranged, with an engagement ring as the ultimate and final stage's prize. If she has a favorite food, insert the ring in her food during a romantic dinner. (It's important to take care when doing this, though, to make sure the ring is not ingested. Be sure it's visible before she takes a bite!)

Family/friends:

Should you propose in front of a crowd of family and friends? Or while the two of you are alone? Consider the feelings of your significant other while planning this. Many women would love to be the center of attention during a proposal, while others may not. You'll probably know which your girlfriend would prefer.

Surprise:
