I must admit, this is my first Nora Roberts book. I had heard the author's name many times, and I associated the name with romance which is a genre I rarely read. This book, Blood Brothers, was recommended by a friend so I thought I'd give Roberts a try.

Part One of a trilogy, Blood Brothers introduces three main characters, boys who are beyond close friends. On their tenth birthday, they travel to a local legend, the Pagan Stone. There they become blood brothers and make a pact, their blood dripping onto the stone with its own bloody history. Since then, every seven years their hometown endures a hellish seven days. Now, as the boys have grown into men, they must find a way to stop an ancient evil.

Readers who like their story to contain a bit of everything will appreciate this book. What I loved most about this book is that it can't be tied down to one genre. It contains elements of Drama, Supernatural, Horror and Romance. It has something for everyone, along with a great plot!

The only downside I found is the length of the book. At 297 pages, it's a very quick read. The story will continue in two more books, though, so I didn't exactly feel cheated, but finishing the book left me wanting more.

Like many new authors or genres, I did a bit of research before beginning this book, and the criticism I found offered two complaints: The plot is predictable and the pairings of characters was too obvious. For me, I found the plot to be not exactly unique or unpredictable, but I enjoyed it. This book is merely setting up a larger story, and it does that well. As for the pairings, there's a reason they are obvious. I can't say much without giving away plot points, but there are reasons that each of the couples pair off the way that they do.

Blood Brothers is the first part of a trilogy, so it doesn't conclude much at the end of this novel. It merely sets the reader up for the story, but it does well to keep the reader in suspense and mystery. I honestly can't wait to see what happens next, and I will definitely be reading the rest of the trilogy. I do recommend this book, but if you read Blood Brothers, prepare yourself for the feeling of wanting more when you're finished!
