The month of May means the end of the school session is fast approaching. Children will be on summer break until their return in late August or early September, and many children, especially young ones, without academic stimuli through the summer months will struggle to remember what they had learned the previous year. There are a number of fun things a parent can do over the summer months to help their child or children retain the many things they have learned; one being the series of workbooks entitled, the Big Get Ready Book Series, by the School Zone Publishing Company Staff.

The Big Get Ready Book Series is a series of grade specific workbooks designed to help children keep current academically over the summer school break, plus provide them with confidence upon entering the new school year. I have bought several of these books for my grandson who enjoys working the wide variety of math, reading, spelling, and problem solving worksheets.

The series starts with Big Preschool Workbook. This workbook is designed for preschool children age three to five years old. It is 320 pages packed full of mazes, exercises to promote thinking skills, same or different worksheets, does it belong? pages, and sheets to help determine between upper and lowercase alphabet, plus many other preschool basic activities.

Next is the Big Kindergarten Workbook, which is also 320 pages long and geared for children ages five to six years old. This workbook reviews the kindergarten skills level and helps prepare the child for first grade. The workbook exercises focus on counting, reading skills, alphabet identification, following directions, math, hidden pictures, colors, and much more.

The Big First Grade Workbook (320 pages) is designed for children six to seven years of age and enforces first grade math, beginning phonics, writing, telling time, counting money, and much more. The book reviews first grade skills and gives a peek into the different skills the child will need in second grade.

I'll have to look for these. My grandaughter spends a lot of time with me while her parents work. She is very smart (4 going on 14 I think) and is always wanting a challenge.
