Chicago love the holidays. The month of December is a great time to visit the Windy City. Chicago is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights during the Holiday season. The City of Chicago offers an abundance of spectacular holiday festivities starting in November and continuing to the New Year.THE MAGNIFICENT MILE LIGHTS FESTIVAL
The famous Magnificent Mile is filled with busy shoppers searching for that perfect gift in the high end department stores along Michigan Avenue.
The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival kicks off on Thursday, November 16, 2006. Magnificent Mile store windows will sparkle with decorations in magnificent holiday themes and innovative designs.
On Saturday, November 18, 2006, The Magnificent Mile Lights are illuminated, bathing the shoppers paradise in festive holiday lights. Festive holiday events are planned for an entire day of family friendly entertainment. Planned events commence at 11:00 AM at Pioneer Court, 401 Michigan Avenue, Chicago. Holiday events during the course of The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival on November 18, 2006 include: holiday carolers, petting zoo, Chicago Chefs live ice carvings, Bitty Bears Matinée: The Family Tree, and American Girls performing holiday songs live on stage..
At 5:00 PM the Magnificent Mile procession begins. Festive, enjoyable street entertainment all along Michigan Avenue includes: The Harris Performance Choir, dance troupes, choirs, tumblers and more perform during the wait for the lighting ceremony. From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, The master of ceremonies, Mickey Mouse, leads the the illumination of more then one million lights. Over one million lights illuminate the entire Magnificent Mile district on North Michigan Avenue for Oak Street to the Chicago River. The spectacular light display will light up every evening during the festive holiday season.

The City of Chicago Christkindlmarket, at Daley Plaza, celebrates four weeks of festive entertainment, with food, hot wine, music and unique gifts, such as hand made nutcrackers from Germany.
