Kayaking is a great way to get outside and explore during the summer months. Not only is it a wonderful workout for your upper body, but the sport allows you to see pieces of nature you otherwise may never have the opportunity to see. Since kayaks have no motors, they allow you to explore shallow bodies of water and get up close to the shores and banks where you have a better opportunity of spotting wildlife. Choosing the right kayak can seem daunting since there is such a variety of products and range in prices. I purchased the Pamlico 135T Tandem Kayak a few years ago and am very pleased with my decision.

A tandem kayak is designed to hold two people. I like having the option to bring someone along with me when I go out. This way, I can bring a beginner out into the water and give them the opportunity to learn how to paddle without the fear of being alone in their own boat. Another thing I like about having a tandem kayak is the extra space it provides. If I wanted to go fishing or camping on my own there would be plenty of extra space to store any gear I would need. There is elastic rigging on the front and back to hold gear down. The kayak is 13 and a half feet long and 31" wide. The kayak is made out of high-density polyethylene plastic. It weighs just under 70 pounds so it is manageable for two people to carry.

Even though the kayak is designed for two people, I am able to handle this boat easily on my own. The seats are padded and much more comfortable than the molded plastic ones you may find in other models. I really like this feature because it allows me to paddle for longer without needing a spot to get out and stretch my legs. There is also a sidelock adjustable foot brace system which makes for a nice place to support your feet while paddling.

The cockpit of this kayak is quite wide which makes entry and exit easy. It is much more open than whitewater kayaks which gives you some more flexibility in terms of stretching out and fitting different sized people.
