I have to admit, I have been following this year's primaries more closely than I have followed anything else in my life. With this long-lasting and bitter campaign season, everybody seems to have an opinion. So far, most of the people have remained engaged and this demonstrates good democratic process. I cannot help assessing the candidates based on my observations. I will try to provide a glimpse of my feelings. It now seems that Obama will easily win the nomination of the Democratic Party. However, in my attempt to evaluate the candidates, the hardest point for me to define was the level of "blackness" that Obama represents, and I will show you why I felt that way. I know it is a sensitive issue. However, since I am neither black nor white, I took the liberty to express my opinion. This is entirely my own opinion and is not an attempt to undermine anybody's qualification, efforts or abilities.

Why Obama and Hillary are similar ?

  1. Obama has charisma, but so does Hillary.
  2. Both of them have great institutional background. Therefore, I will not even dwell on that.

Why Obama and Hillary are different ?

Thank you all for your comments. I am learning a lot about these candidates and the facts from you. That definitely helps me in making the right choice. Again, I believe I should have put "Obama Campaign" under the copyright section of the picture. Sorry about the mistake. It is "their" flyer and DVD that I took picture of....or maybe not !....these pictures were taken by me...anyway, "PEACE" :). Oh ! and Hillary is a little older than 60, NOT 50. Well, women always go by the lower number !....and also, Hillary lost the primary in NH for Bill Clinton's comment, not in NC.

PenPress, I am black but I just don't consider Obama as black too. I haven't listened to a word he had to say because I would rather see a woman for pres. Men have not done well so far. Your article on comparing Obama to Hillary is like an education in politics for me. I am one of these people who vote based on other characteristics such as I voted for Clinton because he is cute and sexy. I just don't put much into the words uttered during campaigning because they are only a ploy to win. I think we ought to give blacks more credit than to only vote for that guy because, supposively he is actually black. I was not aware of his background but you have taught me much and I thank you for that. P.S. What's wrong with being a middle aged women? Hillary seems so grounded and knows what she wants. Some might call her a bitch but this is a man's term for a strong woman that might be smarter than they are. I like the term when used in this context because I am also one.

Dear Mindy, I don't ignore the fact that the decision to go to war was a blunder. Of course, I wouldn't want my son to get killed in an unnecessary / elective war. That is why I prepared the video "Feast on Flesh and Blood". No matter what you can never make everybody happy. Some people had bad things to say about my stance on the Iraq war as well. As for experience issue, I believe it is better to deal with a known enemy than an unknown friend. If you read carefully, you'll see I have mentioned that Hillary habitually exaggerated the facts and that got her into trouble. To me, Obama is not a politically seasoned candidate. On multiple occasions he avoided voting on critical issues just to keep his record clean. I have more confidence in McCain than Obama...and that is a shame because I really hope the Republicans get kicked out of the office for at least another 50 years...we'll see what happens. At the end of the day though you and I, the commoners will have to help each other out...

Great review of Obama. I think the problem with this year's Democratic race has been trying to figure out which of the candidate's weaknesses we can live with because both of them pose such big weaknesses. I feel stuck because I am still trying to decide who I support. I think Obama's choice of a VP will play a big role in this year's elections.

This article is hardly objective. Its a clearly biased editorial. You are entitled to your opinion, but here are some points for you to consider. First and foremost, if Hillary had so much "experience", why did she have to fabricate Bosnian sniper stories? Even after repeating the lies over and over again, she couldn't fess up. Oh, I'm sorry, she did say she "mis-spoke", as so many "crooked politicians" do. There's a leader we can trust! Secondly, you dismiss her decision on taking our country to war as though she voted for the wrong kind of girl scout cookies. Honestly, I don't believe Hillary wanted our troops there any more than I do, but she voted that way because it was the "popular" thing to do. Not hardly characteristic of a substantive leader. Thousands of Americans lives lost and billions waisted because of this "so-called" experienced leader. Maybe you'd think differently if she made a "mistake" that got your son killed.

This is actually a talking point and main issue in the news right now. I'm Tivo-ing it even as I type this comment.

I know you read my article on why I left the Republican party and will never be a member of the Democrat party. Some of the frustrations about the choices we have seem to match up, even though we may have different political ideals. Excellent article, Pen.

Good arguments!

I want Hillary to get the nomination, yet I fear the media will run things and it will be Obama and McCain, Then McCain will probably be our next president. But I could be wrong. Only time will tell.

Good analysis....The rise of Obama reminds me of the Peter Sellers movie "Being There" and his role of Chauncy Gardiner."
