It all came down to the final two. The first was Chelsea, a guarded young woman that Matt had difficulty connecting with until almost the last the moment. The other was Shayne, the actress that he initially questioned regarding her motives for participation in the show.
Matt took both girls home to London to meet his parents and his brother in hopes of getting some help in making his final decision. Chelsea went first and made a great impression on everyone. It was obvious to all that Matt was sexually attracted to the beautiful blonde.
Shayne, on the other hand, found her job cut out for her. Her bleached blonde hair and movie star good looks gave her two strikes against her going into the evening.
However, Shayne's willingness to answer any and all questions thrown her way, her obvious intelligence, and her genuine nature quickly won everyone over to her side. It really wasn't difficult to understand why.
Over the many years of "The Bachelor," few women have impressed me the way that Shayne has. She refused to participate in the gossip and backbiting of the bachelorette house. In fact, she did everything in her power to make peace between various warring women. She even helped some of the girls prepare to put their best foot forward on their dates with the bachelor. Her thought process was always that if Matt chose to be with her, it should be because she was the "right" choice for him and vice versa.
She also refused to compromise on her values in order to win over the bachelor. She called him on some of his actions in order to let him know "what" she was thinking and "why." She remained true to herself from beginning to end. It seems that in the end, that was exactly what Matt was looking for.
