In 2004, the Institute of Medicine and several other medical authorities stated that the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps. And rubella) that contained Thimerosal as a preservative, did not cause autism or neurological problems in children. However, over 4,900 families have disagreed with their findings, and have filed over 5,000 lawsuits with the Federal Court stating that their children developed autism or neurological problems after receiving the MMR vaccines. (The Federal Government had asked the drug manufacturers to eliminate or reduce the amount of Thimerosal in the MMR vaccines in 1999, so that no infant would be exposed to more mercury than recommenced by the federal guidelines.)

Thimerosal, contains ethyl mercury and is used as a preservative in various vaccines and boosters since 1939. However, ethyl mercury is a close cousin to methyl mercury which is a highly toxic substance. Methyl mercury causes damages to the nervous system, immune system, coordination, and senses such as taste, touch and sight. Furthermore, methyl mercury has been found in several various fish species and many states have now issued warnings on such species advising pregnant women, women of child bearing age, and children from consuming any of these contaminated fish. Two other types of mercury are known to cause damage, the mercury (elemental) found in thermometers and in the environment (used for mining gold), causes gingivitis, and tremors. HgCL2, or mercury salt, if ingested damages the gastrointestinal tract and causes kidney failure.

Takeaways
  • The Federal Government created the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act in 1986.
  • DPT vaccines was associated with several side effects in the 1980's.
  • Methyl mecury is highly toxic.
Did You Know?
Over 4,900 parents have filed suit with the Federal Courts citing that the MMR vaccines caused autism or neurological problems in their children.

I beg to differ, this article is significantly out of date and somewhat misleading. Here is a more thorough overview of the issue: http://www.webmd.com/brain/autism/vaccines-autism The ethyl mercury in the perservative thimerosal was removed from the vast majority of MMR vaccines by the end of 2001 and still no change in autism incidence has occurred. The apparent "epedemic" of autism is in part due to an expansion of the definition and increased survalence. The author of this article fails to mention this fact. This article is not completely credulous, however it is grossly incomplete. Read the link above for a more complete, evidence-based review of this issue.

There is no doubt that vaccinations cause autism. THe research is outlined in Holler for Your Health: Be the Key to a Healthy Family. THe only question remaining is why are parents under attack for refusing vaccinations? Wouldn't our time and talent be better spent investigating ways to make vaccinations safer? As for the lack of a reduction in autism when thimerosal (mercury preservative) was removed from most vaccinations: 1. The medical establishment started pushing flu shots for chidlren. When administered from multi-dose vials they still contain a full dose of mercury. 2. Childhood vaccinations still contain traces of this highly potent neurotoxin (thimerosal) 3. Vaccinations also contain aluminum and other toxic substances 4. The measles virus itself, which is in the vaccines, may be a contributing factor. Please keep your children out of harms way! Great article. So many children and families are suffering from this now. It's time for people to open their eyes and see the truth. Something is going on.

good article questioning the cause of autism....the research, http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/02/08/health/main2448678.shtml, is saying the epdemic is more like 1 child out of every 100. What one factor do most all children have in common? Certainly the vacinne theory is worth suspicion as the leading cause.
