John McCain Goes Green in Online Store

John McCain recently announced that his online store has gone green. Upon visiting his web store, I came across several green items. The items are made from either organic cotton, or a bamboo and cotton blend. He also has a separate green logo, which is identical to his regular logo except in the center rather than a star there is the recycling symbol. The green items include polos, t-shirts, hats, visors, onesies for babies, a notebook, tote bag and travel mug. The travel mug is made from recycled plastic, as cotton does not hold steaming hot coffee well. Prices range from $8.00 to $50.00, a portion of purchases qualify as a donation for tax purposes. Good for John, if only we could get Walmart to carry only green items, and for that matter only made in the USA merchandise. Does McCain's new green merchandise make him the environmental candidate of choice? Let's look at the three candidates green policies.
We will start by examining their positions on energy and the climate.
John McCain says he will "limit carbon emissions by harnessing market forces that will bring advanced technologies such as nuclear energy to market faster," and he will reduce dependence upon foreign oil. Translation: He will provide incentives for corporations to make our nation eco-friendly.
Barack Obama plans to reduce gas emissions to 80% below 1990 standards, start an international global warming partnership, reengage with UN Framework Convention or UNFCCC, create a global energy forum of G8+5, reduce oil consumption 35% by 2020, and double the nations investment in energy R&D. Translation, talk, then schedule summits in exotic locals to talk some more.
Hillary Clinton vows to transform our nation from carbon to clean energy, modernize 20 million low-income homes to become energy efficient, work on a post-Kyoto treaty, reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80% below 1990 standards, and create a $50 billion fund for research funded by oil companies. Translation: Talk, then schedule talks, then punish businesses.
Next we will look at their environmental stance.
Hillary Clinton, per her website, does not have one.
