The Dream that Became an Omen
Dreams: Reflections of Emotional Landscape or Omens
Although many opinions exist regarding the meaning of dreams and their purpose, I generally view them as a barometer to my emotional landscape. To put it differently, a dream that leaves me feeling good is usually reflecting that I was feeling good during the waking state. A dream that leaves me uneasy usually occurs when I have been feeling uneasy during the waking state.
However, I once had a dream that not only reflected an uneasy state of mind but became an omen for future events. At the time, I had written a book that met with intense criticism. There was also much praise. But the criticism got to me. Here is the dream:
As I stood amid tables laden with hundreds of thousands books, I noticed a group of torn books with covers imprinted by signs, a combination of Egyptian hieroglyphics and Greek letters. I bought them. Then, several angry persons appeared. As they stood around me, they also stood far away from me on the distant top of a wide white stairway rising to an Acropolis-like courthouse that was a backdrop for their threatening arm gestures. Their words echoed, silent yet malignant. I understood that the group wanted to capture me--but not now--later. The group members wanted me to hide so they could hunt me down and then kill me. Although their faces were unfamiliar, I knew some of them were my friends but the rest were strangers. Their anger stemmed from a suicide. A man had killed himself because he had perceived that I had committed a bad deed. Two other men might die.
