Syesha Mercado has the voice of a star, but she had a strange night on the American Idol final three show. Syesha Mercado is a long shot to make it the finals on American Idol. Unless there is some bizarre occurrence which causes the fans to split up between the two Davids, and Syesha to reap the benefits of that battle, Syesha Mercado will be packing her bags.

For Syesha Mercado Fans

Last night's discussion in my house was about which of the final three contestants on American Idol is the most "listenable." The question was put to me, if I had a CD of all three contestants, which of the three contestant's voices could I listen to the longest? For me, Syeshsa Mercado did not come out on the top of the list. Others my house disagree. They believe that she has the best singing voice in the competition.

Can Syesha Mercado sing? Yes. Could she pull off a concert tour and a record deal? Yes. But, after last night, I do not see her making the American Idol finale show. David Cook is more original and edgy, and David Archuleta is a music savant with passionate fans.

Two out of three songs by Syesha Mercado on last night's American Idol were odd. Her suggestive performance on one song was also not quite right for the American Idol audience.

Syesha Mercado: "If I Got You"

Randy Jackson picked "If I Got You" by Alicia Keys for Syesha Mercado in the judge's choice round on American Idol. This was her top performance of the night, and for Syesha Mercado the rest of the night went downhill.

Although it was her best of the night, Syeshsa Mercado sounded like she was trying to be Alicia Keys, with a little bit of Syesha. Paula Abdul has said more than once in the last couple of weeks that she still does not know who Syeshsa Mercado is as an artist.

Syeshsa Mercado's ability to transform is a plus in some ways, but she never truly lets herself out from behind the mask. This is one of the major reasons that David Cook and David Archuleta are more popular.

Syesha Mercado: "Fever"

In a total "Syesha Mercado what were you thinking" moment. Syesha Mercado slithered and provoked in a lame cabaret-like performance of Peggy Lee's "Fever."

I think she did good on the Alicia Keys song, but the last two were just not right for her. She'll definitely get a record deal though even though she's gone home. Great article!

I definitely think that she played upon her sexuality being the only female left. I personally don't think that she was overly provocative But I do believe that she might have been hoping to bring in a few more male votes.

I think the producers wanted to have more control after the whole mess with that one song and the variations in it with David and his father's influence. Unfortunately, that wasn't great for the contestants in every case. Super article here.

i agree with you totally on the three songs that she sang

Aly, I don't know. She is the only female left, maybe she was playing the sexuality card. It was a song for a stage performance, but she should have picked a song to show offer her voice.

Why in the world did she pick Peggy Lee last night. Oh heavens. Broadway here she comes.

Harold, it would be no surprise if SM went home. People are geared up for a David vs. David finale.

I was wondering how this would turn out since I don't watch the show.

Charlie, it does seem wrong. But I think that all the "reality" show contests are nudged in certain directions by the producers. It's just not always clear why.

I agree. The producers set her up.

Rodney, I have no idea what they were thinking with that song. They know she is talented and bubbly and happy...maybe they were trying to bring her the youth/Happy Feet fan crowd vote? I just don't know.

Am I the only one that thinks Syesha was totally set up to lose by the producers with that choice? It seemed very fishy to me. Great article Pam!
