Homemade Clay Christmas Tree Shaped Ornaments

To Make this Homemade Clay Chrtsimas Tree Shaped Ornament You Will Need:

Air Drying Clay
Paring Knife
Square f Burlap or Linen Fabric
Toothpick
Christmas Ribbon
Acrylic paint in a variety of colors or spray paint
Paint Brushes
Wood gel stains or clear acrylic spray paint
Rolling pin


Now, the first step is to cut of a slab of your air-drying clay. Use the rolling pin to roll the slab out to about ¼ inch thick. You can go a little thinner to about 1/8 inch thick if you want. If you go any thicker thought the Christmas tree shaped ornament will be rather heavy and will weigh down the branches causing them to sag.

Now, you can use your toothpick to trace out a Christmas tree shape on your slab of clay. You could also use a cookie cutter in the shape of a Christmas tree if you want. Using a cookie cutter is a great way to create a large number of uniform Christmas ornaments.

Now, pull you tree shaped ornament away from the rest of the clay. Ball the extra clay up and stick it back into the bag of clay. I like to add a few squirts of water form a water bottle and then seal the bag up. This will keep you remaining clay nice and moist.

Now, you should use your fingers to smooth down the rough or sharp edges of your Christmas tree ornament.

Now, take your burlap cloth and gently start pressing it into the Christmas tree. You could also run out to the yard and grab some pine needles. Use the pine needles to press in through the clay vertically to create some natural looking lines.

Now, break off some of your extra clay and make small ornaments. You can make tiny balls to put on the clay Christmas tree. You could also ask tiny little candy canes and even a garland. Do not forget to ad a star on top.

Now, you can scratch the surface of the clay where these ornaments will be applied. You can also add a tiny bit if water with your finger to make a glue. Then place the ornaments in place and lightly press down.

Now, use the toothpick to poke a descent sized hole through the top of the tree. This will be where the hook or ribbon goes through to hang the ornament on the tree.

Now, let the tree shaped ornament lay out flat and dry.
