Handmade Cream Cheese Flowers
You don’t have to be skilled with a decorating bag to make fancy flowers. Handmade flowers are easy to make and easy to roll by hand, and they are tastier than the hard sugar variety.
To make handmade flowers you’ll need two ounces of cream cheese, two cups of powdered sugar, and food coloring. You’ll also need bowls in which to mix separate colors.
Begin by mixing the cream cheese and powdered sugar. Add a few drops of food coloring, and thoroughly knead it in. Add more food coloring if necessary, to achieve the depth of color you desire.
To make a rosebud, roll a piece of dough in to a ball, and flatten it into a thin oblong shape. Roll it up to create a beautiful rosebud that looks as real as the flowers from your garden.
Surround the rosebud with leaves by rolling a piece of green dough into a small rope. Flatten the rope, and cut out the shapes of leaves with a small knife. Complete the flower by rolling a piece of green dough into a narrow stem. Attach thorns made of dough if desired.
You can make all types of flowers to decorate cakes. Simply roll colored cream cheese dough into thin sheets, and cut out petals of various shapes. Make centers by rolling balls of yellow or orange cream cheese dough.
