Patience and I are often adversaries. My favorite recipe is ready right now. As I dribble down the court of life, I battle with the idea of passing the ball or taking the chance to make a fast break for an unforgettable shot. Sometimes I'm given a second chance due to a technical foul or occasional flagrant error that works in my favor. I gladly approach the free throw line hoping to gain enough points to secure the solid advantage to win. I don't always gain the favor of the shot clock and as the final seconds dwindle away the look of disappointment on my face sets in. Mentally I begin to prepare for the next opportunity to win based on lessons learned from my previous championship attempt. I train myself to begin with the end in mind. It may sound a bit narcissistic but my competitive spirit wants me to acquire the golden ring that symbolizes success. However, the more I want to succeed the more I wrestle with patience and its urgent need to test my resilience. I'm no longer a rookie in the game but as a veteran refining my techniques is still a necessity. I am a great player but sometimes I secretly wonder if I think I am better than I actually am. I desire to be the most valuable player in my league for in my mind all eyes are on me. I need to lead in record winning averages and percentages so I am not labeled as a player who simply plays hard without achieving quantifiable results. As you can see I have a slight affinity for basketball and will use it metaphorically to equate to my personal pursuit of excellence.

The Patience Game

The game is on the line so I have to make this shot.

Nice metaphoric interpretation, especially since it's playoffs/semi-finals/finals time for the NBA. TOTALLY wrong choice of the picture of Kobe ... Go Spurs GO!!!

You caught me right off the bat with "Impatience". I can be a very impatient person and in just being brutally honest with myself ABOUT myself, I've found that my impatience is rooted in fear. Facing such fears helps me to become more patient and with clearer vision. Great Post!
