Washington, D.C. - The National Memorial Day Parade 2008 is our nation's official Memorial Day Parade honoring men and women who have served the military. The National Memorial Parade takes place on Monday, May 26, 2008 at 2pm in our nation's capital, Washington, DC. According to the event organizers, the parade will also be shown on the Pentagon Channel and on local Washington, D.C. TV stations. Here is what you need to go if you go to the Memorial Day Parade Washington, D.C.

Highlights of the National Memorial Day Parade

Special Events at the National Memorial Day Parade

In addition to the marching bands, floats, parade marchers, youth groups, and military vehicles, there are a number of special events taking place at the National Memorial Day Parade. The recipients of the Medal of Honor will be honored. There will also be a military fly-over visible to the parade goers.

The National Moment of Remembrance occurs at 3pm. Even if you cannot attend the National Memorial Day Parade, you can take this one minute, at 3pm, to remember those that died in service. At the parade event, buglers will play taps.

Special Guests

There will also be special guests participating in the National Memorial Day Parade. First, hundreds of active duty personnel will be marching in the parade.

One of the most notable former servicemen participating is Frank W. Buckles. Frank W. Buckles, 107, the "last known remaining American veteran of World War I." (American Veterans Center)

Other military personnel and veterans participating will be Navy veteran (World War II) and baseball Hall of Famer, Bob Feller. The only Air Force "Ace" pilot of the Vietnam War, Brig. Gen. R. Steve Ritchie is also scheduled to make an appearance. (American Veterans Center)

Kristen Haglund, Miss America 2008 will also be participating in the parade.

National Memorial Day Parade Route

The Washington, D.C. parade beings at Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets, NW. The parade then heads down Constitution Avenue and passes the White House. The parade marchers stop at 17th Street, according to the American Veterans Center.
