This year's American Idol has been quite entertaining. Each contestant was truly been unique and special. There was Brooke with her folk singer Carly Simon-like looks and style. Jason Castro with his dreds and happy face. I truly liked them all for different reason. But throughout the entire season there has been two clear favorites and they have always been the two Davids. Syesha had her work cut out for her. Here is what I think happened:

She knew that this was her last night to sing in front of millions and millions of Americans. Simon criticized her for picking "Fever" as her choice of song but think about it this way. If Syesha knew she was going...she had to look at her strengths as a singer. She has always been praised at how she is able to emote during songs. Her singing/acting abilities are fantasic and she is also gorgeous. It has been said that she would make an outstanding Broadway singer/actor because of these strengths. I don't think she is strong as a pop singer and while Simon thinks she should have chosen a more commercial song, I think it was a calculated choice on her part and she went with her strengths.

David Cook and David Archuleta were the right two contestants for the final. She knew it, you could see it on her face. Even when she was being criticized she was smiling as if to say, "you may think I did the wrong thing, but I'm thinking about my future here, not just this competition." She was a sweet and beautiful girl. And she is a fantastic singer. Her range is amazing. And she is a true performer.

But David Cook and David Archuleta have the hearts of America and people I know have been forming camps long ago. My son has been Archuleta's fan from day one. And although I called David Cook, "Mr. Roundhead" at first, I was won over by his musicanship and ability to make his mark on every song he sings. If it were a singing contest, I would have to concede that David Archuleta is a better technical singer. I think he's way too smultzy for true super stardom though. David Cook has the appeal that will sell millions of records. And he's a Switchfoot fan, which I think is pretty cool.

It is really up to America now. I can't wait to find out.
