The morning routine can feel not-so-routine when trying to get you, your spouse, and your kids out the door on time. Here are some time saving tips that can help.

1. Make sure everyone is getting enough sleep. There’s nothing worse than butting heads with sleepy kids especially when you are tired too. Putting your children (and you) to bed at a reasonable time helps attitudes all around. When my oldest goes to bed late, she wakes up in a bad mood and everything goes downhill from there. But when she’s had her ’40-winks’, she is happy and cooperative.

2. Choose clothes the night before. This is a big one! Deciding what to wear in the morning, especially when you are groggy, can be a drain on your already short window of time. This tip really helps mom and dad because even younger kids can dress themselves and you don’t have to worry about whether their clothes match since you have already chosen them the night before. Let your kids help in this arena. It’s been my experience that if you choose the clothes without input from the child, they may not like what you’ve picked and that can lead to unnecessary time delays the next morning (and more arguing). Making sure you know where the shoes are can help as well because, if your kids are anything like mine, the shoes are never where they are supposed to be!

Getting your kids ready for school doesn't have to be a struggle. Following these easy tips can make everyone happier.
