Bike sales have boosted since the price of gas has been on the rise. Many people are now relying on the good old two wheels of a bike to get them back and forth to work instead of their motor vehicles that pollute the air and cause us to pay more out of pocket to use these machines.

I am a work at home mom, but I often need to go to places like Wal-Mart and Target to get some of my supplies that I use to work with. I no longer take my car to run these errands; I instead use my bike.

The price of gas is in its all time high and I am just like every other American who thinks that this is outrageous. Being a work at home mom means that I do not get a raise like some of the other workers, I have to either work twice as hard or become more conservative.

Working twice as hard isn't a great option for me since I have a house full of children. I decided to become more conservative and riding a bike is one way for me to do this.

Biking to run my errands for my work can be a challenge at times. I have nearly been hit a couple of times by someone driving who wasn't paying attention. I am also not in the best shape that I was in as a teenager and the first few trips to the store made me exhausted.

Biking instead of driving does not only make me exhausted but it also takes me an extra twenty minutes to get to places like Target.

On average, I probably only save about $10 a week but over time this will add up. In a year's time I am likely to save an average of $480 which is more than enough to make a car payment or buy my children clothes for school.

If you are planning to do the same so that you can save money I would advise you to get into shape first. Just a couple of week's worth of strength training in your legs should do the trick.

If you live far from your work, ask someone if you can park your vehicle at their home and ride your bike to that location and then drive the rest of the way. This will help you save money without overdoing it.

Commuting back and forth with the use of a bike is not a bad idea and it has many benefits as helping you to exercise, helping the earth, saving money, and keeping down the wear and tear on a vehicle.

I live in the country so biking anywhere is hard- at least a couple miles to the nearest anything. I have actually been thinking of taking the kids biking this summer ~ we have several bike trails around. I think it would be fun, good exercise and FREE! Good luck in your biking expeditions and be cautious!

I believe it! We definitely bike or ride more and I keep more food on hand than ever to reduce trips to the grocery store and conserve gas money. Besides, it is better for the environment than driving a car and I've even see bikers zipping past drivers stuck in rush hour traffic :) The only downside? When a bike and car do collide, the car generally wins.

Keep on bikin', Rosa! It'll get easier. I tend to walk a lot more places now; one benefit of living in a small town is that most stores are within walking distance, a mile or so. No Walmarts or Targets, though. Oh well, I'm helping the local economy as well as saving gas!
