Many know the heartache that comes from an idea lost
A heartbeat never heard, but felt within
Some choose to turn the other way
Forging on in mock naiveté, playing stupid
Swallow tears and pain, force a smile
Tell them everything is alright
Crying themselves to sleep

I was ensconced in doubt and fear
Guilt ridden for the one I have already
Torn between two loves that take my breath away
Many tears fell down my cheeks
Many prayers for strength and courage

Hours and days and weeks dragged on
I swore it had been years
But not long enough, not for you and I
For as I lost track of the questions running rampant
I fell in love with you and called you my own

You and I, we share a past that no one else was part of
But our past is too short
Too much memory than reality
Too much and not enough

I miss you, though I barely knew you
I had never held you or even felt you breathe
But you were a part of me, and I of you
And now that you're gone I am overcome
With the heartbreak of almost

Very heart-felt poem, nicely written.
