Past 2 weeks has been a worrying one for me at least. Just tuning into the news channel was a demoralizing event per se.

First, it was Nargis, the cyclone which hit Myanmar on 3rd May 2008. The news itself was a jolting one which was followed by a never ending battle with the Junta to allow aid into the country. As if the entire situation was not heavy enough, we read about the black market issue of the aid supplies that did reach Myanmar. Every day, as I read the papers, it is unbelievable as I think through if I got my priorities wrongly placed! The referendum happened without a zilch, even though the people of the nation (for whom the referendum should have mattered the most) were in dire suffering and most of them were not even aware of the need for the referendum anyway!

If that content was hard to digest, the next calamity struck - this time, in Sichuan, China. The issue with the Olympics is well known and if that is not enough, China had faced 2 devastating disaster! Apart from the rail derailment, earthquake struck at a 7.8 magnitude. The amount of destruction that has taken place is one of the worst since a few decades back. The death toll has been on the rise and every day a new number emerges. The most troubling issue for me with this earthquake is the collapse of the school which claims to have taken the lives of 900 students! Kudos to the government, who has been quick in their aid to the casualties.

If that was not enough I read about the man-made disaster in Jaipur, India. Bombs exploded in 7 areas claiming the lives of many. The bombs were planted in strategic locations which were frequented by a lot of tourists. As if the natural disasters were not enough for the world to handle, here comes a man-made one.

Natural disasters, man-made calamities, inflation, global warming, war! Sometimes I feel that this entire life is so full of sadness. And such is the state of affairs that one could not think otherwise.

I agree with robsmom. Have faith and pray for those affected by these catastrophies and challenges. Great job. :-) *****
