It's Amazing How 40 Years Can Scare You

It’s amazing how 40 years can scare you. I was standing at the sink when he came home from work. Doing the dishes and making sure the house looked nice. I had on a new dress and my hair done nice. No reason. I just wanted to be noticed. He came through the door and walked right by me. Didn’t say anything. Never even looked. I do my part once a week. He does this every day. But with 40 years in a marriage, change is impossible. I’m too old to find someone else. The sad thing is, I could love him again if he would just look. Just notice. Once. I could get another 40 years of love out of just one notice.
