If you have dry hair, a hot oil treatment can be exactly what your hair needs to bring it back to life, adding shine and moisture and making your hair simply look healthier overall. Whether your hair is naturally dry or has been made dry from too frequent blow-dries and damage from curling and straightening irons, hot oil treatments are a fast and easy solution.Depending on how dry and damaged your hair is, you should do a hot oil treatment once or twice a week. If your hair is really damaged I would advise starting with twice a week and slowly working down to just once. If your hair is only mildly dry and damaged, one hot oil treatment a week should be enough to get your hair looking and feeling healthy again.
The best part about hot oil treatments for your hair is that you can do them yourself in your own home. There is no need to go to a hair salon or even buy expensive hot oil treatments from the drug store.
To make your own at home hot oil treatment you will need: half a cup of soybean oil, 8 drops of sandalwood oil, 8 drops of geranium oil, and 8 drops of lavender oil.
The steps for completing the hot oil treatment are very easy. Simply combine all the above ingredients into a measuring cup and mix them well. Make sure you use a cup that is microwave safe because now you are going to heat the mixture up for 20-25 seconds. You want it to be warm but not too hot.
The easiest way to apply the oil is to bring it right into the shower. Get your hair wet. You want your hair to be damp but not soaking. Now apply the mixture evenly to your hair. If your ends are especially dry make sure they are nicely covered in the oil. Then using a wide toothed comb, comb the oil through your hair and wrap a hot towel around your head. Leave the towel on your head for 20 minutes.
After the 20 minutes is up, simply rinse out the oil and shampoo your hair. Make sure everything is rinsed out really well and you don't need to bother using conditioner since the hot oil does the same job for you.
Once your hair has returned to its glorious healthy self, remember to keep doing hot oil treatments from time to time to prevent it from becoming dry and damaged all over again.
