David Archuleta, the Young Balladeer Takes on Rocker David Cook in The Finale of American Idol
Another season of American Idol draws to a close this week with the final musical battle between the Davids. David Archuleta, the young balladeer, stands the best chance of winning the title over rocker David Cook. However both contenders seem poised to have long careers in their particular musical niches.

Based on voice alone, Archuleta wins the competition hands down. Week after week his smooth yet powerful voice has won him a top spot in the finals and has warmed the hearts of American Idol fans all over the country.
One of the biggest moments ever on the show came early this season when Archuleta performed a rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine" that sent shivers up the collective spines of the audience. It's a rare moment when an artist achieves at taking a song that is so well-known and respected and adding something new to it, making it his own while remaining faithful to himself and the original recording. No other singer on the competition has been able to recreate a moment like this on the show since Clay Aiken performed "Solitaire" back in 2003.

Many argue that David Cook has taken classic songs and rocked them out, making them his own, however a quick review of his latest recreation, that of Roberta Flack's " The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" on last week's show, demonstrates just how uncomfortable he is remaking tracks in his own image.
Overall talent wise, David Cook wins. He is an accomplished guitarist who has the ability to transform songs from artists as divers as Dolly Parton and Mariah Carey into full on rockers. The problem is that the results are often mixed or predictable. Cook shines when he is in his element, such as his rendition of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing", but this is also his downfall.

Your analysis in this story was pretty good until I got to the end and read that Cook should write some of his own material. The man has 4 cd's of original material to his credit all ready and they are excellent. This tells me you are not aware of Axium or Analog Heart. You should check them out.

David Archuleta has show business written all over him. Not only will he sing the song style he does best, but David will add to his rep. quite splendidly with all kinds of music. He will surprise and excite his audience and will last in the music industry well into his forties or better. Talent is a funny thing: it tends to be immortal.

David Cook is the rea talent. Archuleta acts like a robot. And when they try to ask Archuleta a question, he can't complete a sentence to save his life. He has a good singing voice, (although he only sings one type of song) but not any better than a lot of other people out there. But he needs to mature mentally some more. He would not do well on the tv talk show mania that follows the finale. He acts like a 7 year old.

It's clear that this article and it's writer are pushing for Archuleta. Well, Archuletta is a good vocalist, but.....he can only sing one style of song, and that is ballads. Whenever he has attempted to sing anything outside of that, he has failed miserably. Archuleta also has no stage presence whatsoever. He looks completely uncomfortable on stage. He has zero personality. These are all things that he will need if he is going to be a celebrity. He will have to perform live, so he is going to have to learn some stage presence, and he will have to do interviews, so he is going to have to learn how to speak. The kid sings a nice ballad, but Clay Aiken has already got that market cornered. Clay Aiken has an amazing voice, and can sing up-tempo tunes in addition to ballads, but the other thing that got him millions of fans around the world called "Claymates" is his personality and charm, and his ability to put on an amazing concert where he engages the audience to the point wher

VOTE VOTE VOTE David Archuleta. He is the real talent my friend and I am 55 years old who is sick and tired of rap and loud rockers. Nothing new and humble about them. Hey anybody can be a loud freak but not everybody can be a great singer, even as young as 17.

Overall as far as talent David Cook wins? They are both different singers. David Cook loves to scream at the end of each song and needless to say, that is when I get my ear plugs out. Honey if you call that real talent, oh well, you are entitled to your opinion for sure. Changing the songs is real talent? Nope! His vocals cannot match David Archuleta's strong voice that is why he screams at the end. They are both talented and different. They both are winners at this point. So get over it. It is really very simple, you prefer the David Cook screaming sessions and bad hairdos weekly, no problem, pre-order his CDs. Some of us in our 30's still love beautiful ballads of words we can understand, screaming sessions is not for us. We support the David Archuleta style that is who we vote for as the best talent. He is the clear voice to beat, but that is only my opinion and of course you are entitled to yours.
