"Coat of Many Colors" Written by Dolly Parton
Illustrated by Judith Sutton
Plot
This story is about a family that didn't have much money. The daughter in the family didn't have a winter coat and the family couldn't afford to buy her a new one. One day her mother decided to sew her a coat using different pieces of rags that the neighbor had brought over. Day after day, she would sew this special coat for her daughter. Each piece of cloth was sewed with love in her heart. When the coat was finished, the mother explained to the daughter that this coat was worth more than all of the money of a new coat because this coat was made with love. The daughter was so proud of her new special coat and wore it to school. What she didn't expect was that the other children were going to make fun of her new special coat. She didn't let them upset her though because she knew how much the coat meant to her and to her mother who made it. When she came home, she told her mother what had happened at school but the mother explained again how special this coat was because each piece of cloth was sewed together with love. The little girl wore that coat proudly and didn't let the other students making fun of her ruin her love for her new special coat of many colors.
