Before they started being heard by other stations. The reason I did was that I heard that they stopped their show and played music, to talk a listener out of killing himself. They didn’t put him on the air to boost their ratings and show what great guys they were, they just talked to him in private. I figure any guys that nice deserved a listen. But the reason I STILL listen to them is that they are funny, and even more importantly they are caring about people. I remember that once when an off duty police officer lost his life in Charlotte, they had a spur of the moment radio-thon and raised a large amount of money for his family. They also raised a lot of money for hurricane victims last year, and took things down there themselves to Louisiana. The most important thing they do is support their “Grin Kids” Charity http://www.grinkids.org . They take handicapped kids and their families on an all expenses paid trip to Disneyworld once a year. They do fund raising events throughout the year for this charity. The best known way of getting the money for the charity is Ace’s cover band, Charity Case, http://www.charitycaseband.com . This is a very good cover band and all their money goes to Grinkids. They also do Breaking And Entering Christmas every year. They ask for people to write about families in need, and then they arrange to break in without the needy family knowing about it. When Pete and his band of merry elves break in, they leave a Christmas Tree and many many gifts. The family is not told about this and are surprised by it when they get home.
